    • ------------------------------------- How this blog got its name

------------------------------------ There was a large painting of Evel Knievel shaking hands with Richard Nixon. It hung in the Mayors office. Late one evening after everyone went home. I took it down to the lab. I zoomed in on Evel’s left eye a 100x and enhanced it. It was an address. I went to the address. It was a modest, 1970’s style, split level ranch home in the suburbs.

----------------------------------- Inside I found a dead parrot lying on a waterbed. I revived the parrot with some saltines and adrenaline. We became good friends. The parrots name was Randy. One night a few years later while Randy and me played Gin Rummy, he sang me a song about a fire. The title of this blog was never mentioned but I sensed it, and Randy confirmed it by giving me ‘THE LOOK’.

            :

in one sitting. And I don’t read ANYTHING, let alone in one sitting. That being said, this is one of the most next level books I’ve read in a while. It’s crazy. It’s full of vivid opposing imagery. It has multiple references to the fanciest restaurant in my hometown, Applebee’s. It compares the smell of dumping a bottle of English Leather on you and downing a flask of 12 year old whiskey to being “strangled by James Garner.”

I read a lot of garbage with my work for Nan Bu Nan. This book makes you pay attention. It is clever, but not in a way your english professor would condone. I don’t know the writer personally, but now I want to.

Awww thanks for the kind words! Makes me happier than a robotic monkey throwing shit at the pope.

The indie craft show was fun. I met a lot of good people. Though I did not realize there would be little kids there… Three kids ran over to my table, the oldest one was a nine yr old girl. “Cool! Guns knives, and vitamins,” she said, holding up a Hunter S. Thompson postcard. I was instantly terrified. “Can I have one?” she said. “Sure,” I said. How about this one? I showed her a Philip K. Dick postcard. “Its got robots and lasers…” Her younger brother cocked his head and loudly asked “Whats a hooker?” just as the 3-4 yr old knocked a pile of books and tore down my sign. “I like this one,” declared the little girl, holding fast to H.S.T. card. “Mommy look,” she said running over towards a very consevetive looking middle aged women. I swallowed hard. I should’ve duct tapped the AK-47 under the table, couldn’t shoot my way outta here with just my .45. These Goddamn savages. I could light a few of em on fire and escape a midst the screams and smoke, grab the boat to the Bahamas and then island hop to Jamaica and eventually Brazil. Go back to running bales into Mexico and get myself a new identity in Tijuana. Have a nice place in Encinitas in two months tops… The mother looked at the card. I fingered my zippo and moved the gas can into position with my foot. “Oh, I just love Johnny Depp!” she declared.

GPOY - I know I don’t look it, but inside that giant head and flamboyant ladies blouse is one nervous little girl.

“Whenever I get the urge to write about someone or something that I feel is senseless, I think… ‘Any moron can be a critic. I should use this energy to make my point of view as refreshing as possible.’ Don’t add to the mountain of obvious, boring noise. CREATE SOMETHING INTERESTING AND UNUSUAL or SHUT THE FUCK UP!” - Mark Twain

Hey Cats & Jammers, my newest book project is live and available on kickstarter.com What is kickstarter? Ohh my friends, its just the most awesome and wonderful way to produce crazy AND unique art. You pledge some $$$ to a specific artist for a project, they make and produce that art project and then you get the art. Some of you may be familiar with the little Choose Your Own Mustache Adventure that I did online. Well I thought it would be fun to turn that into a full length book. I also wanted to collaborate on a book with some friends… so I combined the two ideas and have come up with Choose Your Own Author. The book will be quite similar in style to the Choose Your Own Adventure books from when we were kids, only this book will be for adults and authored by many wonderfully creative and insane people. I also have various artists contributing different illustrations as well. Some of the authors so far are Josh Luft, Philip T. Hunter, Aurora Adams, Nathan T. Dean, Jade Bos, Fake H. S. Thompson and a couple of the old Viking Youth Power hour podcast guys. It’ll be fun, wild and mind blowingly delicious. (p.s. my 1,000 post!)

I know LOST is on soon so I’ll try to be brief. I am putting together a book of short stories and bad poetry. Hookers or Cake  You can get yourself a copy of said book, shipped directly to you, for as little as $10 I am funding the whole cost of the project through a website called Kickstarter. Basically its a website where artists, writers, musicians & filmakers ect. pitch a project and how much it’ll cost to produce. People (YOU) family & friends then pledge $ for a piece of the art. A book, or a record, or a DVD… sometimes other fun, weird stuff. The pledging goes on for a month or 3 and then IF the artist has met their goal $ amount the project gets funded. Then kickstarter charges the people who have pledged $. The money is handled through Amazon.com and given to the artist and the art is produced and given to the producers (YOU) - If the artist doesn’t meet thier $ goal the project doesn’t get any funding. P.S.I’m only $93 away from full funding! Only 30 hours to go. Kickstarter gets 5% for their services and the artist gets to pay for the project costs of producing the art. In my case I don’t make any money. The book costs $650 to print.  $400 to design, layout, editing and then a bit more for shipping and packing. Any extra $ gets poured right back into the project. I don’t know bout you, but I think this is a really fun and personal way to produce art.  I have a ton of friends who are gifted artists, but they don’t do much with it and hey why not do something?! You don’t have to make a living at it or become rich and famous. That and trying to make a living with your art can be hell anyway and takes a lot of the fun outta it. But if you can make good and interesting art… hell it might at the very least, pay for itself. That and much of the  payment lies in just being involved with the creative process - of being, feeling , afuckinglive and exploring the artform. Yeah I know that sounds hokey… but damn! This is the most fun I’ve had in a long time and trust me it sure takes the sting outta being bled like a dumb animal 40 hrs a week. So buy a book! A record! A painting! Support your local weirdo artists - keep em out in their workshops, late into the night, cackling, waist deep in the collective unconscious. Wake up in the morning too INTERESTING IDEAS!  Get involved with mystery and curiosity… its damn sexy and it’ll keep you alive and fun. Good day & thanks much - Jade Bos
