Australian Olympic boxer Damien Hooper is in jeopardy of being punished and even sent home from the Olympics because he wore a T-shirt with an Aboriginal flag on it. Hooper, who is of Aboriginal heritage says,
“I’m Aboriginal, I’m representing my culture not only my country, but all my people as well. I’m very proud and that’s what I wanted to do. I’m happy I did it. I wasn’t really thinking about that (making a political statement). I was just thinking about family…”
The Olympics do not allow athletes to make political statements, only to sell Coke, McDonalds, and be spokespersons for Dow Chemical. Lets all hope Damien gets his priorities straight.
